{ FAQ Answered }

As promised from yesterday!  I posted this on my FB fan page:
“For all my Photog Fans: I get a lot of emails, and I feel bad that I can’t answer them all the way I want to. The reality is that I just have to give that time to my clients and family….however...

Honestly, I didn’t understand 80% of what you said, Tara, because I obviously am not a professional photographer … however, I have to say the reason why you always get the most amazing shots is because of what you stated in that last question about how to get kids to “want to have their picture taken” … we have never once felt like you were invading our space during a shoot and that alone makes a HUGE difference with kids. You never asked my kids to do something that was “out of their character” … you took the time to get to know them and really gave them “kid freedom” also known as “creative freedom”. I LOVE that your pictures are geniune … not all “posey” and “fake” … I just adore your professional perspective and your ability to capture the energy of each “subject” … it’s truly amazing … you are amazing!!!! :)

Angel Pope - May 11, 2010 - 10:32 am

Thanks for sharing. I had fun reading all of that and getting your angle on different points of interest. So kind of you to give us some of your time! Luvs!

{Why I Do Things the Way I Do}

As I have been gradually writing the workshop book for my attendees, and creating outlines of the things I want to teach to other photographers this year I find myself up at 2 in the morning with thoughts just pouring out faster than I can type.  It is a pretty disorganized process at first, but...

YES! YES! YES! Amen sistah. (Except I dont get caught up in technical stuff because frankly, at the moment, I dont know that much and I think thats to my advantage. LOL)

Stefanie - April 24, 2010 - 10:57 pm

Well said sista! I can’t wait to see what else you come up with! ;) Love the brain storming!

Natanis - April 24, 2010 - 11:09 am

Very insightful! Thanks for sharing:)

Marcy Jordan - April 23, 2010 - 11:43 am

You are so right about spending more time concentrating on the connection…I have to remind myself to do that during every session.

p.s. Your images are amazing!

admin - April 22, 2010 - 11:37 am

LOL I’m not kidding! She even has the before pictures from at home where I was throwing a fit over hating my hair. haha I should totally have her dig those up and send them to me so I can post them.

julie gendron - April 22, 2010 - 10:49 am

LOL! Child of Satan made me laugh!
You know I usually delete those when i get them of the kids, instead I think I’ll do like a “last day of the month” blog post featuing “Tara’s so called Child of Satan look. <3 it!

Daralee - April 21, 2010 - 8:48 pm

Pretty good for late-night-ramblings! :)
You are so right about JC Penney style portraits… I stopped taking my girls to those years ago because I preferred the candid shots I took of them.
It’s also why I was so drawn to your portraits – you really capture the PEOPLE in them.
Everyone who sees the pictures you took of our girls says “wow – those look just like them – it captures who they are!”

Like I’ve said several times before – YOU ARE AMAZING!

Tammy Wahl - April 21, 2010 - 8:34 pm

Tara – I love your insightful words. I only take pictures of my kids and most of the time I think I try to do what you’ve said above, but not always. I need to be more aware of that at all times!

Kimberly King - April 21, 2010 - 8:33 pm

Funny thing is I have always commented on your sessions about how you capture the essence of the family or individual … I usually don’t know the subject personally but I can get a sense of who they are through your lens. You absolutely are so talented in doing just what you said you set out to do … capture each person as their authentic self in the pictures. I acutally HATE getting my picture taken but then you came along and during our family shoot I never once felt uncomfortable and I think that is because of who you are as a person, not necessarily as a photographer. You have that perfect balance of being a talented professional and being a loving individual. I adore you and your work inspires me … although I am the first to admit photography is just a hobby for me but … it still brings me loads of joy!! Love ya, girl!! ;)

Amy - April 21, 2010 - 4:18 pm

Wonderfully said! I really hope I will be able to attend your workshop! I have SO much to learn! I remember taking photos of my niece for a Chritmas card last year. I was really trying to get my niece-Jasmine- to enjoy herself, but every time she would do something “wrong” my sister-Lisa- would yell at her. I ended up having to tell my sister to stop. Thankfully it worked. I hope Jasmine will learn to like getting her portrait taken.

linda - April 21, 2010 - 4:11 pm

well said,that’s why i’m a fan and love your work!

Rebecca - April 21, 2010 - 3:54 pm

I need it to be June now, not in two months!
